Word Search
Example sentences including a word or any character string can be found when the string is inputted in the proper box. If the "Exact match" box is not checked, a search for the string "increase" will show sentences containing "increased" and "increases." If "Exact match" is checked, only sentences including "increase" will be listed (the "Exact match" box works only for searches where English is the target language).
By default, all sections/steps are selected, but the search can be restricted to particular sections/steps by selecting only the sections/steps to be included in the search.
By default, all research fields are selected, but the search can be restricted to particular research fields by selecting only the fields of interest.
When the characters of a string are one bit-characters, the search is restricted to the English corpus, and if the string is composed of kanji character(s), only the Japanese corpus will consulted.
When the search string is only one character long, “Exact match” is turned on automatically.
Combining Searches
The relation between strings can be searched by including “ * ” between them. For example, the input of “increase * than” will generate a list of all sentences containing BOTH “increase” and “than”. If “ | ” is included in the search string as in “increase | than”, sentences that contain “increase” OR “than” will be listed. If sentences containing “increasing”, for example, are also looked for, “increas* about” (no space between “increas” and “*”) should be inputted as the search string. Multiple “ * ” and “ | ” can be combined in the same search, “ * ” being processed before “ | ”.
Section search
Example sentences related to a particular section can be found by selecting the section of interest. More than one section can be selected at the same time, but when no string is inputted the maximum number of sections that can be selected is 3.
When no string is inputted, the language(s) can be selected (the default is English). When both English and Japanese are selected as the target language, the results for English appear first, and the results for Japanese can be seen by pressing the "Japanese" button in the "Retrieval results" bar.
By default, all research fields are selected, but the search can be restricted to particular research fields by selecting only the field(s) of interest.
Step search
Example sentences related to a particular step can be found by selecting the step of interest. More than one step can be selected at the same time, but when no string is inputted the maximum number of steps that can be selected is ten.
When no string is inputted, the language(s) can be selected (the default is English). When both English and Japanese are selected as the target language, the results for English appear first, and the results for Japanese can be seen by pressing the "Japanese" button in the "Retrieval results" bar.

Line length
The length of a concordance line (a hit, or displayed example sentence) can be changed from the default of 50 characters to 100 or 150 characters.
Number of lines per page
The default number of lines per page is 100, but can be changed to 50, 100, or 200.
Sorting
The order with which the concordance lines are displayed can be changed. When a string is inputted, the default criterion for sorting is the word(s) containing the search string. The sorting order can then be changed by pressing the "FollowingWords" button in the title bar of the results page. This action will cause the sorting criterion to be moved to the words (kanjis) that come after the search string. Pressing "FollowingWords" again will invert the sorting order, with the sorting criterion "NextWords" being kept the same. Similarly, pressing "PreviousWords" causes the sorting criterion to be moved to the words (kanjis) coming before the search string. Sentences belonging to the same step can be shown together by pressing "Step." When "OriginalText" is pressed, sentences containing the search string and belonging to the same presentation will be shown together.
When steps are selected without string input, the default criterion for sorting is the file name.
